The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and partnering agencies conducted a mass evacuation drill May 15 at the Fulton County Justice Center Complex as part of ongoing public safety and emergency preparedness efforts.
The coordinated exercise was designed to ensure employees, public safety personnel and partner agencies are familiar with established evacuation procedures and coordinated response protocols.
“Proactive training exercises like today’s evacuation drill are essential to ensuring our personnel and partner agencies are fully prepared to respond quickly, safely and in a coordinated manner during any emergency situation,” Sheriff Patrick “Pat” Labat said in a release from the department. “As we continue preparing for large-scale events such as the FIFA World Cup 2026, this level of readiness is critical to protecting the community and maintaining public safety across Fulton County.”
During the exercise, all individuals within the affected buildings, including the government center, were directed to evacuate via stairwells and follow established emergency procedures.
Partnering agencies included the Fulton County Police Department, Atlanta Fire & EMS, the Atlanta Police Department, Georgia State University, Georgia State Patrol and the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
Upon completion of the drill, an official notification was issued indicating the reopening of the Justice Center Complex. Employees and participants were encouraged to follow instructions from building coordinators and public safety personnel throughout the exercise, the release said.
