A DeKalb County high school student was injured after a shooting near a bus stop on Tuesday morning.

At around 7:51 a.m. on May 19, officers with the DeKalb County Police Department responded to reports of a shooting near Stone Mill Drive and Juliette Road in Stone Mountain. The victim, who was identified by the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) as a student at Stone Mountain High School, suffered “very minor injuries” according to a county spokesperson.

A spokesperson of DCSD told Channel 2 in a statement that the school administration and the district’s public safety division are actively investigating the incident and disciplinary action will be taken.

“We are also continuing to reinforce expectations for safe and appropriate student behavior on campus, at bus stops, and during student transportation,” the statement continued. “DCSD encourages families to speak with their children about the importance of making position choices, resolving conflicts appropriately, and reporting concerns to school staff.”

The incident remains under investigation. Information as to whether arrests have been made or the identity of the perpetrator has not yet been shared publicly. Rough Draft will continue to post updates as the story develops.
