Sandy Springs is inviting paddlers from across the Southeast to compete in the inaugural Sandy Springs SUP Showdown on Saturday, Aug. 15, at Morgan Falls Overlook Park.
The city says the new Sandy Springs SUP Showdown aims to establish a new tradition for paddleboarding enthusiasts while introducing more residents and visitors to the city’s vibrant outdoor recreation opportunities along the Chattahoochee River.
“The exciting new event will showcase the natural beauty of the Chattahoochee River while highlighting the growing popularity of stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) and adaptive paddle sports,” the city’s announcement said. “With support from Catalyst Sports for adaptive kayak athletes, the Sandy Springs SUP Showdown celebrates competition, accessibility, and the spirit of the water.”
Presented in partnership with Murph’s Surf and Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks, the SUP Showdown features a challenging six-mile out-and-back course on Bull Sluice Lake and the Chattahoochee River. Competitors will navigate dynamic river conditions that test endurance, strategy, and on-water skills while enjoying one of metro Atlanta’s premier outdoor recreation destinations.
The race kicks off at Morgan Falls Overlook Park at 7 a.m. There is a $75 registration fee with an Aug. 12 deadline.
