Advancing the vision of the Arts Brookhaven: A Vision for Culture and Creativity in our Community, the City of Brookhaven Arts and Culture Commission partnered with local schools to inspire creativity, encourage artistic expression, and bring neighbors together through sharing art. The Arts and Culture strategic plan, adopted in 2020 states that Brookhaven, “embraces diversity and supports arts and cultural initiative and public art that are accessible for, and representative of, all residents.”
“Make Art and Take Art” boxes are small public exchange boxes that allow community members to leave a piece of art for someone else to discover and to take home. In return, visitors are encouraged to create or share their own artwork, helping build a community-driven collection of creative works. These boxes have been installed at Lynwood Park, Woodley Plaza, Langford Park, and the Peachtree Creek Greenway.
The Arts and Culture Commission partnered with students from local schools, Oglethorpe University, Chamblee High School, and Cross Keys High School to decorate the exterior of the boxes before they were installed.
All ages and skill levels are welcome to participate. Whether it is a sketch, painting, collage, photograph, poem, or other small handmade creating, every contribution helps make the boxes a reflection of Brookhaven’s creativity.
