Holy Innocents’ took another step forward in 2025, improving from a 5-6 finish in 2024 to an 8-4 record. During 2024, then first-year head coach Nick Perrotta was tasked with replacing 19 starters, and he turned to a group of talented underclassmen to step into major roles and help modernize the offense. Among those contributors are starting quarterback Ryan Woods and two-way playmaker Brayden Bailey—the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback Champ Bailey. Additionally, Perrotta is bringing back four starters on the offensive line, including center Vance Lane, left tackle George Peeler, guard Colt McNamara and right guard Thomas Dougherty. Mitchell Bainbridge will handle the kicking duties and was a perfect 10-of-10 last season in field goals less than 45 yards.
Defensively, linebacker Finn Ferrero returns after leading the team in tackles last season. Perrotta is replacing some size on the defensive line, but is expecting the group to be more athletic than past seasons. “I think we are a little bit more athletic than we have been in the past defensively,” said Perrotta. “We gave up 13 points per game last year and have consistently been in that 12-to-13 points per game average, so we have been a team that is built on defense and built on stopping the run and these guys this year are going to have to do it a little bit differently.” Holy Innocents’ will open the season against cross-town rival Pace Academy before travelling to Athens Academy with an opportunity to avenge last year’s 48-37 second-round loss.
