Chamblee is entering a “transition” season, according to head coach Bob Swank, who is expecting to play his stars on both sides of the ball more often than in previous years. “There was a time not too long ago when we were really playing well and we played all of our guys on both sides of the ball,” Swank said. “We went down to Ware County and played them very tough, but they wore us out and so we decided you can’t play both ways and both sides of the ball and really compete at a high level, but I think we’ve circled back in that direction. We are going to have to do that and we have guys training on both sides of the ball, and probably our top 18 guys are going to be playing a lot of snaps.”
Swank expects Kaleb Tate to play every snap on the defensive line and at left tackle on the offense this season. Tate is joined by Harrison Jones and rising junior nose guard Naeem Mendez. Additionally, multi-sport athlete Maddox Butler came out for football last season and, at 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, has turned into a standout tight end in addition to defensive end,which he played last season. Defensively, starting middle linebacker Ahmad Barry is back along with safety Jack Robinson. Another player to watch is sophomore Antwan Middleton—a three-star wide receiver and defensive back that started at safety last season as a freshman.
