Head coach Calvin Arnold is entering his second season at the helm of the Grey Knights after leading the program to a 3-7 finish last year. Arnold marks the team’s fifth coach in six seasons and the first coach to stay for his second season since Kevin Clark (2018-21) and stability could provide dividends for Midtown. A goal entering the season could be a playoff berth. The Grey Knights want another postseason game, last appearing in the playoffs in 2015 and 2016 as region champs under head coach Earthwind Moreland, both second-round exits. A program since 1947, Midtown, then known as Grady, won the 1953 Class 2A state championship under head coach Erskine Russell. Since that victorious and historic season, the team’s deepest playoff run is a semifinals appearance in 2005 under head coach Ronnie Millen, the team’s winningest coach who went 99-50 through 13 seasons (2001-13). Midtown opens the season on the road at Jackson-Atlanta on August 21 and will make its first home stand against North Atlanta on August 27. Entering the 2026 season, the team will look a little different. The program will look to replace some of its biggest names in offensive production. That list includes the graduations of quarterback Noah Williams, running back Cam Austin and wide receiver/safety Kentrell White. Rising senior Dorian Fox featured occasionally at quarterback last season and was 13-of-28 passing for 148 yards while rushing for 145 yards and a touchdown.
