Meadowcreek is excited for what is possible in 2026 heading into its second season under head coach Johnny Burdette. Burdette is a longtime Gwinnett County assistant coach who started his career at Berkmar and helped the Mustangs snap a 17-game losing streak that dated back to 2024 when his team rallied to defeat the Patriots 21-14 last October. Getting that victory saved the program from consecutive winless seasons and instilled confidence that has driven the team through what Burdette believes has been a tremendous offseason. “We are definitely ahead of schedule and way ahead of where we were last year with it being my first year and I was still leading the track and field team,” said Burdette. “This year I didn’t have to do that, so we were able to be in the weight room and out there doing field work, and that is putting us way ahead of where we were last year.
We played Osborne in the spring game and saw a lot of good things there,so we are building off that.” Seniors Patrique Prioleau and Savion Mitchell return after leading the team in tackles last season. Additionally, receivers Ty Samuel, Demetrius Hardy, Brian Hicks and Dontarius Sanders are phenomenal athletes that Burdette says will help drive the success of the team this season. At quarterback, sophomore Carter Bryant is a 6-foot-3 prospect who has the opportunity to be the team’s quarterback for the next three seasons.
