The Brookhaven Bucks (24-9) swept the Lake Oconee Wild Things in the best-of-three Sunbelt Baseball League Championship Series on Saturday, August 1.
The championship is the third in franchise history, first since the team won back-to-back championships in 2018 and 2019, according to a release from the team. Andrew Bernard (Brevard College) was named MVP of the series. In the two games, Bernard was 5-7 with five RBI, three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Three members of the Bucks were named to the All-Sunbelt Team, including Kason Gleaton (Bethune-Cookman University), Chip Glogorski (Georgia College); and John Kosobud (Centre College);
Kosobud, from Dunwoody, was named the Sunbelt League Cy Young Award winner, given to the best pitcher in the league.
In addition to Kosobud, two other local players were on the team this season: Coleman Eldridge (Brookhaven/University of West Alabama) and Will Forte (Dunwoody/Yale University).
“I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of this team. We battled through the whole season to win this championship. We had multiple injuries, but we had so many different guys step up,” said Bucks Owner Brad Dickison in the release.
Dickison is a Brookhaven resident and has operated the team out of their home field at Oglethorpe University since 2011.
The Bucks roster is made up of college baseball players from 23 different institutions around the U.S.
