Friday, Sep. 11 — Today marks the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and a field in Shanksville, Pa. Commemorations are taking place around Metro Atlanta, and we compiled a list of many of them for you.
🍯 We wish a sweet and healthy new year to our readers who celebrate the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah, which starts Friday at sundown.
🌂 Temperatures will be in the mid-80s with chances of rain throughout the weekend. The weather has been feeling crisper in the mornings and evenings, so hopefully those fall temps aren’t far behind.
🦟 A mosquito trap in Chastain Park has tested positive for West Nile Virus, as reported by WSB-TV. The area was scheduled to be treated this week and will be retested. In the meantime, park officials are encouraging visitors to take normal precautions to help prevent mosquito bites while enjoying the park.
🍺 Admission is free for Sandy Springs’ third annual “OktoberFEAST” taking place Oct. 17 and 18 at City Springs. The festival will feature authentic Munich traditions, delicious German food, seasonal beverages, live entertainment, and family-friendly fun.

Jamestown invests in Sandy Springs shopping centers
🛒 Atlanta-based Jamestown, the firm behind Ponce City Market, has secured $72 million in refinancing from global investment firm KKR for Parkside Shops and Hammond Exchange, abutting shopping centers along Roswell Road in central Sandy Springs.
Together, the shopping centers span more than 330,000 square feet on roughly 25 acres, between Cliftwood and Hammond drives. Parkside Shops has about 160,000 square feet of retail space, and the Whole Foods-anchored Hammond Exchange has about 175,000.
Jamestown bought the two centers in 2018, for a combined $93.85 million, according to Fulton County property tax records.
Since its purchase, Jamestown has invested in site improvements, signed new leases, and acquired an adjacent outparcel. According to an announcement, the site is positioned for future mixed-use redevelopment, but no timeline, zoning application, or construction schedule has been disclosed.

Sandy Springs mayor to give his annual State of the City
🏙️ The Greater Perimeter Chamber announced that this year’s Sandy Springs State of the City address will take place Tuesday, Sept. 15, featuring Mayor Rusty Paul.
The mayor’s annual citywide update offers community members and business leaders the opportunity to learn about the main projects Sandy Springs officials are focusing on today and the vision guiding the city’s future.
Adam Forrand, president and CEO of the Greater Perimeter Chamber, said it’s important for community members and business leaders to hear directly from the mayor about the trends and developments shaping Sandy Springs.
“Mayor Paul and the City of Sandy Springs continue to demonstrate what is possible when a community has a clear vision for its future,” Forrand said. “Strong cities and strong business communities grow together, and Sandy Springs continues to be an important driver of economic opportunity throughout our region.”

Atlanta mayor announces deal to sell city detention center to Fulton County
🏢 Mayor Andre Dickens announced a $68 million deal to sell the Atlanta City Detention Center to Fulton County after weeks of active negotiation.
The sale stands to free up space at Fulton County’s main jail on Rice Street, which is overcrowded and understaffed. The county had been leasing space at the city detention center, but the agreement was set to expire at the end of the year.
During negotiations, Dickens made the sale of ACDC contingent upon Fulton County’s participation in the City’s extension of tax allocation districts (TAD), a diversion of tax dollars used to boost an area’s economy, transportation, and healthcare.
