A woman alleges that she was slapped by a musician during an event at Londzell Performing Arts Theatre in Tucker earlier this month.
During the Legendary Awards Show and Concert on Sept. 6, Shamika Boyd was allegedly slapped by Southern soul singer Sky Whatley. Boyd was in attendance to watch her daughter, Jada Boyd, perform a DJ set.
Cellphone video of the incident appears to show Boyd approaching the stage with her hand out before Whatley slaps her across the face.
According to a DeKalb County police report, Boyd told officers that Whatley called her to the stage and acted like he was going to give her a high five before slapping her. Boyd told police the slap left her with two black eyes and a chipped tooth.
No arrest or criminal charges connected to the incident have been confirmed.
Boyd has hired attorneys, according to WSB-TV, who are preparing to pursue the matter in civil court. Boyd’s attorneys are examining the venue’s response as part of their case.
Londzell Performing Arts Theatre did not respond to a request from Rough Draft for a statement on the incident.
