Police in Jacksonville, Florida, said they had to use “an energetic door breach” to arrest a man wanted for a deadly club shooting in Atlanta in 2023.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office SWAT members and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force found and arrested Jonathan Soto, 43, at an apartment complex in Jacksonville. Police said he had initially refused to come out when police surrounded the apartment where he was hiding.
Soto is wanted for a man’s shooting death in Atlanta on Feb. 4, 2023. The shooting happened at 6:48 a.m. at the Republic Lounge at 990 Brady Ave NW.
Channel 2 Action News reported at the time that Michael Gidewon, the club’s co-owner, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness said they saw someone get kicked out of the Republic Lounge, described as looking very drunk and carrying a gun.
A security guard said the individual and the club manager got into a fight, resulting in the manager being shot.
Soto was booked in the Duval County Jail and is being held on a fugitive warrant.
