When Governor Brian Kemp unveiled GEORGIA MATCH in 2023, the goal was straightforward but ambitious: make college admission easier, clearer, and more accessible for Georgia students. Now entering it’s fourth cycle, the direct admissions initiative has become one of the largest state-run programs of its kind in the nation and an important pillar of Georgia’s broader Top State for Talent strategy.
GEORGIA MATCH works by removing uncertainty from the college admissions process. Using students’ HOPE GPA and academic records, the program identifies Georgia public colleges and universities where students are academically eligible for admission. Rather than wondering where they might qualify, students receive a personalized letter from the governor in the mail and posted to their private dashboard through GAfutures.org listing institutions that are prepared to welcome them.
The program’s reach continues to expand. In October 2025, more than 132,000 Georgia high school seniors in the Class of 2026 received personalized GEORGIA MATCH letters. Over the first three years of GEORGIA MATCH, nearly 400,000 high school seniors received letters. Participating institutions also waived application fees during Georgia’s Apply to College Month in November and the Application Fee Waiver Month in March, further reducing barriers to enrollment.
In addition to its partnership with the University System of Georgia (USG), GEORGIA MATCH benefits from the prominent role of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG). Every student participating in the program receives admission eligibility information for Georgia’s 22 technical colleges, ensuring that high-quality workforce-focused pathways are visible alongside traditional degree options. For many students, a technical college represents the fastest route to an in-demand career, industry credential, or continued education.
That connection is exactly why GEORGIA MATCH has become an important component of Georgia’s Top State for Talent initiative. Launched in 2024, Top State for Talent is a cross-agency effort designed to align education, workforce development, and economic growth. The initiative brings together partners including TCSG, USG, Governor’s Office of Education and Workforce Strategy, Georgia Department of Education, Georgia Student Finance Commission, and other state agencies to create seamless pathways from education to employment.
Within that framework, GEORGIA MATCH serves as an early entry point into Georgia’s talent pipeline. By helping students recognize their postsecondary opportunities before they graduate from high school, the program encourages more Georgians to pursue credentials and degrees that lead directly to high-demand careers. The initiative reflects a broader shift in how the state approaches talent development—not as separate education and workforce systems, but as one connected pathway designed to meet both student aspirations and employer needs.
As Georgia works to maintain its position as the nation’s top state for business, leaders recognize that economic success depends on talent. GEORGIA MATCH demonstrates how collaboration among state agencies can simplify college access while strengthening the workforce pipeline. By connecting students with opportunities at technical colleges and universities across the state, the program is helping ensure that more Georgians can see a clear path from classroom to career and that Georgia remains the place where talent meets opportunity.
