DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson has appointed attorney, state legislator and civic leader Omari Crawford to serve as the County’s Chief of Strategic Initiatives. The appointment is effective today, October 1. 

As a member of the CEO’s executive cabinet, Crawford will help advance the administration’s strategic priorities, coordinate high-impact initiatives across county departments, and strengthen partnerships that support efficient government and improved outcomes for DeKalb County residents.

“Omari Crawford is a proven leader who understands DeKalb County, public policy and the importance of turning ideas into measurable results,” said Cochran-Johnson in a release from the county. “His experience in law, government, and community service will be invaluable as we continue advancing major initiatives and building a more responsive, effective and forward-thinking county government.”

Crawford brings extensive experience in litigation, public policy, and government affairs. As an attorney, he has represented plaintiffs and defendants in business disputes throughout all phases of civil litigation and appeals.

Crawford currently represents Georgia’s 89th House District in the Georgia General Assembly.

“I am honored to join CEO Cochran-Johnson’s administration and help advance a strategic vision for the future of DeKalb County,” Crawford said. “DeKalb is my home, and I look forward to working across departments and alongside residents, businesses, and community partners to turn priorities into action and produce results that strengthen our communities.”

Crawford is a graduate of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association’s 2024–2025 LEAD Program, the 2022 New Leaders Council Fellowship and Leadership DeKalb Class of 2021.

He serves on the boards of the East Lake Family YMCA and the MTS Sickle Cell Foundation, Inc. He is also affiliated with 100 Black Men of DeKalb County, Inc.; the DeKalb Lawyers Association; Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; and the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Georgia.

Crawford earned his Phd and MBA from North Carolina Central University and holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration from Florida A&M University. FAMU recognized him as a member of its 2024 “40 Under 40” class for his professional accomplishments and community service.
