Throughout the month of October, the Brookhaven Municipal Court is offering limited amnesty to individuals with outstanding traffic violations or have an active bench warrant.

According to a release from the city, the goal is to settle outstanding violations with the court, advocate for the restoration of lawful driving privileges, and reduce arrests while decreasing the court’s overall caseload.

“The program is available through October 30, and provides eligible participants with a safe, straightforward path toward resolution of their case,” the release said.

“Failure to appear in court initiates consequences that are distinct from the original offense and, in some cases, more impactful to daily life,” said Dominiqui Southall, Chief Clerk of Brookhaven Municipal Court, according to the release. “This amnesty program is an invitation to rejoin the judicial process, address outstanding court matters, and bring unresolved cases back into good standing.”

During the amnesty period, individuals with an outstanding bench warrant or whose offense(s) require a court appearance may pay a reduced appearance bond, receive a new court date, and have the bench warrant withdrawn.

Under the program, individuals with an outstanding traffic violation that has resulted in driving privilege restrictions may pay the overdue fine or request a new court date to initiate restoration of their driving privileges.

Acceptable forms of payment include cash, money order, cashier’s check, and credit/debit card. No personal checks will be accepted, and the amnesty program does not apply to outstanding violation of probation warrants.

To take advantage of the amnesty program, residents are encouraged to visit Brookhaven Municipal Court, 1793 Briarwood Road, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. throughout the month of October. Individuals may also request to participate in the amnesty program through the city’s website.

For more information about the amnesty program, contact the Municipal Court of Brookhaven at (404) 637-0660, email Court@BrookhavenGA.gov, or visit the city’s website about the program.
