While I love cold weather, my knuckles are already starting to crack from the dry air. In this week’s newsletter, I’m sharing fall skincare tips from local pros and a new facial at Aviary Beauty + Wellness that’s well suited to this transitional weather.
Here’s some more notable health and wellness news:

Atlanta Dermatologists Talk Cold-Weather Skincare

🍃 As outdoor temperatures transition from sticky and sweltering to dry and cold, Atlanta dermatologists and estheticians recommend adjusting skincare routines to match the weather.
Board-certified dermatologist Joanne Jacob, M.D., said her patients often experience tighter, flakier, and itchier skin in the cooler months. She and another Atlanta expert recommend following a few fall skincare tips to protect the face and body from dry, cold weather this season.

💭 It is not a bad habit, and it is not something a person should simply be able to stop. It has a name: body-focused repetitive behaviors, and there are treatments built specifically for it.
The hardest part is usually the shame, not the behavior itself.

Work on The Stitch Set to Begin in 2027

🪡 Work on The Stitch, the park that will cap a section of the Downtown Connector, is set to begin in 2027, with more funding still being sought to complete the ambitious project.
New renderings for The Stitch were recently unveiled, showcasing an indoor-outdoor “Gateway Pavilion” along Peachtree Street, cafe space, and green spaces.
The Stitch is estimated to cost $713 million and would add roughly 17 acres along a three-quarter-mile stretch of the Downtown Connector. Jack Cebe, president and CEO of Atlanta Downtown Stitch Inc., said phase one will cost around $200 million.

New GLP-1 Copay Price Study

💊 A study published in JAMA Health Forum tracked 8,914 insured patients for more than a year and a half and found that three out of four stopped taking their GLP-1 within a year of filling their first prescription, even at the lowest cost tier. Researchers also saw a significant drop-off in adherence once copays reached about $75.
When monthly out-of-pocket costs exceeded this amount, nonadherence rose to more than 80%, said study author Eunhae Shin, an assistant professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the University of Georgia.
The study suggests that, against the background of already low adherence, higher out-of-pocket costs are associated with an additional decline.
The Short List
🧼 As Atlanta experts shared in today’s feature, gentle exfoliation is key to maintaining a healthy skin barrier. For my face, I really like Revision Skincare’s Pumpkin Enzyme Mask. For showers, Nécessaire’s The Body Exfoliator is a great gender-neutral body wash (try the refreshing eucalyptus scent, or opt for the fragrance-free version).
🔋 Nutrition and hydration methods have come a long way since I started running marathons nearly 20 years ago. The latest innovation: a drinkable lactate gel used by Tadej Pogačar and other professional cyclists.
“You Can See Everything,” the documentary about disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, opened to $15 million last weekend, the biggest debut for a non-concert documentary since Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11” in 2004. Read Sammie Purcell’s review here.
