Residents can sample Israeli cuisine for free on Tuesday, Oct. 27, when Israeli chef Yossi Shitrit brings the Israel Ministry of Tourism’s A Taste of Israel culinary roadshow to the city.
The free event runs from noon to 3 p.m. at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, 5342 Tilly Mill Road in Dunwoody.
The Atlanta stop is part of a four-city food truck tour extending the ministry’s I AM ISRAEL campaign. The tour also visits Boca Raton, FL, on Oct. 25; Nashville, TN, on Oct. 28; and Dallas on Oct. 30, bringing Israeli flavors and culinary collaboration to communities across the American South.
In Atlanta, Shitrit will team up with Shai Lavi, chef and owner of The Third Space in Atlanta, to create a dish that blends Israeli culinary influences with local talent. The featured dish is fish kataif, a crispy kataif pocket filled with fish, tahini, amba and cilantro. A vegetarian dish will also be available.
“Israel’s culinary culture reflects the country itself — it is diverse, deeply rooted, constantly evolving and full of creativity,” said Yoram Elgrabli, the ministry’s tourism commissioner for North America in a release about the event. “A Taste of Israel gives people an opportunity to experience that firsthand. Bringing Chef Yossi together with local culinary voices in each city makes the experience even more meaningful, creating a conversation between Israeli food and the incredible food cultures found across the United States.”
Shitrit is one of Israel’s leading culinary voices, known for blending the country’s culinary roots with global influences, contemporary techniques and a spirit of innovation, according to the release.
The chef behind Tel Aviv restaurants Hiba and Bandit, he was named to The Best Chef list in 2024 and 2025, the first Israeli chef to receive the distinction. He is also a judge on “MasterChef Israel.”
