Atlanta Public Schools (APS) celebrated the completion of an $18 million renovation at South Atlanta High School with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 28. The improvements were made possible by the current Education Special Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST).

Superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson was joined by district leadership, Atlanta Board of Education Chair Jessica Johnson, Board Member Patreece Hutcherson, City Councilmember Antonio Lewis, and South Atlanta High School Principal Phillip Braziel to celebrate the school’s renovation.

“Our investments in our schools and other facilities are about more than improving a building. They are about creating environments where students feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn,” Johnson said at the ribbon cutting. “These renovations at South Atlanta High School represent our commitment to enhancing the student experience and ensuring our students and educators have the spaces that support their success.”

The multi-year renovation project focused on improving student safety, comfort, accessibility, and the overall learning experience. Key improvements include a new covered school entrance, atrium, security vestibule, a renovated counseling and student success center, renovated sports stadium, refinished gym floor, air conditioning upgrades, and accessibility upgrades to support compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
