Charis Books and More, the South’s oldest independent feminist bookstore, celebrates its 52nd birthday Nov. 5 – 8 with an after-hours event and sale.
The festivities kick off on Nov. 5 with A Feast of Feminist Voices, a celebration of feminist writing across genre, with Sinister Wisdom, a lesbian literary and art journal.
The weekend continues on Nov. 6 with Charis After Dark at 7 p.m. The event will include music from DJ SCNDSHFT, mocktails and apple cider, treats from Fig and Cardamom and Vinny’s Mutual Aid Bakery, and extended shopping hours.
Tickets are free with a $12 option that includes a pastry and a drink ticket. Additional drink tickets are $7 at the door, and additional pastries will be available for purchase. All funds raised from tickets and drinks will support Charis’ free programming, which includes author talks, trans groups, and community building events.
The party kicks off Charis’ birthday sale, which continues through Nov. 8. Everything in the store will be 10% off, and free birthday cake will be available in-store on Nov. 7.
Other events hosted during Charis’ birthday weekend include a tribute to the work of Minnie Bruce Pratt with the Georgia Review, a celebration of “The Complete Works of Pat Parker” with ZAMI NOBLA and Sinister Wisdom, and community art making.
