Out on Film, Atlanta’s LGBTQ+ film festival, has announced the theme for its 2026 event as well as a few of the films that will be screening.

The theme of the 39th annual festival is “The World We’re Making.” The festival will run from Sept. 24 – Oct. 4, according to a press release.

The theme is meant to celebrate the world that LGBTQ+ filmmakers and audiences create through art, creativity, and shared experience, according to the release. With the theme, Out on Film aims to create a space where authentic LGBTQ+ stories can be seen, celebrated, and discovered.

“The World We’re Making reflects what Out On Film has always been about – bringing people together through extraordinary LGBTQ+ stories,” said Out On Film Board Chair Joshua D. Lorenz in the release. “Every filmmaker, audience member, volunteer, and community partner helps shape this festival, and we’re excited to welcome everyone back for another unforgettable year.”

The first two films selected for the festival are “Test” and “Dreamers.” Directed by Sam McConnell, “Test” stars Brock Yurich as an amateur body builder in rural Ohio grappling with his dysfunctional family and his own emerging sexuality. “Dreamers’ comes from writer/director Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor and follows a Nigerian immigrant in the U.K. who is detained and placed in an asylum removal center.

“After a record-breaking 2025, we are excited to bring Atlanta and the region one of our most exciting and biggest line-ups,” said Out On Film Festival Director Jim Farmer in the release. “‘Test’ and ‘Dreamers’ are both stories that will resonate deeply with our audience.”
