Atlanta Pride has announced the launch of the Grand Marshal History Project, a new initiative dedicated to preserving and celebrating Atlanta’s LGBTQ+ legacy.
The initiative will create a living historical record of all the individuals and organizations who have served as Atlanta Pride Grand Marshals. By gathering updated information and personal reflections from past honorees, Atlanta Pride will expand its historical archives and enhance Grand Marshal profiles on its website.
“For more than five decades, Atlanta Pride has been powered by people who have courageously led our community forward,” Chris McCain, the Executive Director of Atlanta Pride, said. “This year, we’re also looking back with gratitude. Every Grand Marshal has a story that deserves to be preserved, and we want to ensure those voices remain part of Atlanta Pride’s history for generations to come.”
Phoenix Brannon, a rising senior at Agnes Scott College and an Atlanta Pride summer intern, is leading the project. Brannon has already begun research and connecting with organizations who served as Grand Marshals, and Atlanta Pride’s outreach to individual Grand Marshals marks the next phase of the project.
Atlanta Pride is encouraging all past Atlanta Pride Grand Marshals to complete a brief form documenting their experiences and accomplishments. The information collected will create a more comprehensive historical record while highlighting the last impact each Grand Marshal has had on Atlanta’s LGBTQ+ community.
