Friday, April 24 — The Fulton County Library System is kicking off its annual One Book, One Read program with this year’s selection “The Last One at the Wedding” by Jason Rekulak. The public is encouraged to read the book, then participate in one of many discussions about it taking place at libraries around the county. The Sandy Springs Branch will host an event on Thursday, August 6 from 2 to 3 p.m.

☔️ The forecast shows we should get some much-needed rain on Saturday, so you may want to save your outdoor plans for Sunday.

♻️ Beyond the Bin, Sandy Springs second annual bulk recycling event, takes place on Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Advance registration is required. Sign up here to learn what will and will not be accepted.

🕺🏽 The North Springs High School Dance Company closed out its year with “CORE,” a twist on traditional performances that highlights how dance can bring academic subjects to life. A North Springs spokesperson said the production reflects the school’s innovative spirit as it prepares to become Fulton County Schools’ only STEAM-certified high school.

👏🏼 Congratulations to Christian Foster, a senior at Mt. Vernon School, for being named a candidate in the 2026 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Inclusion in the program is one of the biggest honors bestowed upon high school seniors. Foster was also recognized in December when he received the highest possible ACT score.

🏆 Three North Springs seniors will continue their academic and athletic careers when they head to college, representing the school in baseball, softball, and basketball. North Springs Athletic Director Keith Thomas said the school’s athletic program takes great pride in developing students who excel both in competition and in the classroom. Meet the students here.

🎯 The Sundown Social series returns to the City Green on select Thursdays from May 14 through October 27. This year’s outdoor family event will include an expanded lineup of crowd-favorite bands and a variety of classic lawn games, including cornhole, checkers, and giant four-in-a-row.

Sandy Springs kicks off 2027 Comprehensive Plan

🌳 Sandy Springs held its first state-required public hearing for the 2027 Comprehensive Plan, a long-range planning document that outlines where and how development should occur, at its April 21 meeting.

While elected officials won’t adopt a final plan for another 12 months, the kickoff signals the beginning of input opportunities for residents. During the recent public hearing, there were no resident comments.

The state of Georgia requires municipalities to update their comprehensive plans every five years to maintain access to state and federal grants.

SR 400 Express Lanes will be unlike others in the state

🚗 The first phase of construction for the SR 400 Express Lanes has started between Abernathy Road and Roberts Drive. The Georgia Department of Transportation reports motorists will soon experience temporary traffic shifts, barriers, pavement markings, and crews working along SR 400 southbound (Spalding Drive to Abernathy Road) and SR 400 northbound (Northridge Road to Roberts Drive).

When complete, the express lanes will operate bidirectionally, meaning drivers will be able to use them heading northbound and southbound 24 hours a day between the North Springs MARTA Station and McGinnis Ferry Road. This will be unlike all other express lanes in the state, which only operate one direction at a time.

⚠️ Keep up with the progress here.

Sandy Springs art show reclaims what we throw away

🌸 What if the things we typically toss could be remade into something beautiful? Two Atlanta artists focused their April 2026 exhibition at the Abernathy Arts Center in Sandy Springs on exactly that proposition.

“Unexpected Reclamations,” a 48-piece exhibition featuring the work of Cathy Ehrler and Kathy Rennell Forbes opened the first week of April and closes the third week of May. The art pieces are built from post-consumer waste, handmade paper, and found objects.
