Reports dated through Jan. 8.
The following information was provided to the Reporter by the Sandy Springs Police Department from its records and is presumed to be accurate.
Robbery
4500 block of Roswell Road 30342 – Rite Aid reported that a robbery occurred about 6:30 p.m. Jan. 3. An employee walked out of the store with the evening’s cash in a deposit bag when he was approached by a man who pulled a gun, took the bag and ran.
I had a friend who owned a convenience store, and every day at the same time he would put the money in a plastic bag, to fool the thief, and walk some 50 yards to the bank deposit box next door. I told him it doesn’t matter what you carry the money in; unless the bad guy is a complete fool, he’s going to know what you’re doing because you’re walking straight to a bank deposit box. Sure enough, he eventually lost a bunch of cash when someone figured out the time of the money drop and robbed him. If it’s a lot of money, have the armored car service arrange a pickup, or at least have a security plan involving more than one person. Never get predictable when moving money from place to place.
300 block of Carpenter Drive 30328 – A man reported that just before 6 a.m. Jan. 4, he went to his car to start it, and when he returned and closed his apartment door, two men kicked the door open. The two men went through the apartment and possibly took some costume jewelry.

Someone attached two card-stock cards, loaded with a sticky substance, to a string, then lowered the cards into the after-hours rent drop box with the hope of pulling out a check or two. Apparently it didn’t work because the string and cards were left inside the box. (I don’t even know if they like you to do this, but I would take my rent check to the office during business hours and hand it to someone.)

She refused orders to step back during the man’s arrests, and she too ended up in jail.

600 block of Londonberry Drive 30342 – Around 11 p.m. Jan. 1, officers responded to a complaint of fireworks and a loud party. They found a lot of cars parked along both sides of the road, which is a no-no, big time, because we cannot get emergency vehicles, namely firetrucks, into the area. The officers determined that the home was for sale and apparently rented to someone who was holding a party and charging $20 at the door. A shuttle service brought people from the Northside-Powers Ferry Road shopping center. (Sound familiar?) The officers estimated 500 to 700 people were at the house, including 50 waiting in line to get in. She didn’t see who kicked her, but her boyfriend, who was inside the bar when the officers arrived, came outside with a bloody lip and scratches. He said he did not kick her, but a witness said he saw the man kick a Toyota truck the woman owns. Several people were later arrested for disorderly conduct.
5600 block of Roswell Road 30342 – Target security employees called Jan. 1 after they observed a man randomly place numerous items into his shopping cart and wheel the cart around the store. During the argument he put her out of the apartment. The officer spoke to the man, who said the two were ending their relationship, and he was about to go out for New Year’s, and he took the laptop so she wouldn’t take his stuff from the apartment while he was out. The officer had the man return the laptop and called the woman’s sister to pick her up. Both were cited for disorderly conduct.
