Forget those drab high school hallways and the fabled mystery meat of school cafeteria menus. North Springs Charter High School is going uptown.
For a night, anyway.
“When our guests enter the school, we want to give it the feel, the sense, that they’re walking into a gala, a really nice event,” said Tim Fulton, co-chair of the first Gala at North Springs, scheduled March 13 from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
The idea for the fundraiser arose last summer, when officials of the Friends of North Springs Inc., a non-profit that raises money for the school, decided to hold their own fundraiser, rather than simply serve as a channel for donations, Hudson said. “We decided we wanted to take a more proactive role in raising funds,” he said.
For the gala, volunteers will transform the school, Fulton said. A steel drum band will greet visitors. A “mad scientist” will serve faux cocktails in the science classroom. Dinner will be catered. A student jazz band will provide dinner music. The evening ends at the theater, with performances to include a sneak peak at “The Producers,” the musical to be staged this spring by the school’s theater students.
The cost is $100 a person. For tickets, call 770-641-5919 ext.11 or e-mail srk@chaikenklorfein.com
