Not heavily discussed in this issue but very much alive are identity theft reports, mostly involving the theft of debit or credit card numbers. The culprits use the stolen numbers to make purchases online, and the victim normally finds out when the collection office calls or, with luck, the establishment calls to verify the card. Check your credit report a couple of times a year, and read your statements.
