The city of Sandy Springs is requiring that all new residential and commercial sprinkler systems installed in the city have rain sensor or freeze sensor shut-off valves.
The devices, intended to save water, shut off a sprinkler system after a set amount of rain has fallen or when the temperature falls below freezing.
The new rule does not apply to systems used on golf courses or other systems that do not use public water supplies, the city said in a prepared statement released April 14.
