To the editor:

Early in 2009, The Streets of Buckhead stopped construction, leaving the rusty rebars in foundations now considered dangerous to support the structures.

In addition, the unfinished Streets of Buckhead has had a negative impact on the surrounding properties. The 30,000 square-foot ESPN Zone Restaurant & Bar on Peachtree Road – directly across the unfinished Streets of Buckhead – has closed, while the office buildings and shops on Peachtree Road, Pharr Road, East Paces Ferry and Buckhead Avenue are experiencing unusually high vacancy rates. Furthermore, the unfinished Streets of Buckhead has discouraged the start of other projects in the immediate area.

In the best interest of the taxpayers, the Fulton County Taxpayers Foundation urges the Atlanta City Attorney to file a petition with a Superior Court Judge requesting the Streets of Buckhead be completed or the foundations and cranes removed, with the 28 acres restored to its original landscaping without the fences.

If this is not done within the next 60 days, the Taxpayers Foundation intends to take legal action in the best interests of the surrounding property owners.
