Fulton Tennis Services, led by Ivo and Martine Barbic, will continue to operate the Sandy Springs Tennis Center until next summer.

Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos and City Council, at their Aug. 3 work session, decided to postpone the rebidding of the management contract for the 24-court facility on Abernathy Road. The board was set to bid the contract in July and select a management company for the tennis center in November.

But Galambos said the Request for Proposal (RFP) that the city has drafted is a “mess.”

Galambos said the city will hire an outside company to draft the RFP.

Fulton Tennis Services’ management contract will be extended six months, Dist. 4 Councilwoman Ashley Jenkins said. The contract was supposed to expire Dec. 31, 2010.

“I think this makes perfect sense,” Dist. 5 Councilman Tibby DeJulio said.

Late last year, Sandy Springs residents and tennis players were outraged when the city’s staff recommended that Council grant Windward Tennis Management the contract to manage the tennis center operations. Council deferred a decision after questions were raised about the selection process.

The board decided, in December 2009, to draft a new RFP and extend the Fulton Tennis Services’ contract.

Fulton Tennis Services has managed the Sandy Springs Tennis Center for about 20 years.
