The city’s second murder-suicide this year occurred after a baby shower, said Sandy Springs police spokesman Lt. Keith Zgonc.
Around 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 11, police responded to a murder-suicide in the parking lot of the Legacy Key Apartments, 1910 Summit Springs Drive. The incident involved a husband and wife who were visiting from Fayetteville.
Lillian Shaw, 44, was found dead on the scene. She had been shot several times by her husband, Edward Shaw, 45, after an argument broke out in the apartment parking lot, Zgonc said.
After shooting his wife with the semi-automatic handgun, Edward shot himself in the head.
Edward was transferred to North Fulton Hospital, where he died in the emergency room, according to the police report.
Zgonc said family members informed police that the couple was divorcing. He said the husband and wife were in Sandy Springs for a baby shower.
“We’re still investigating,” Zgonc said.
The incident marks the third homicide in Sandy Springs in 2011, and the second murder-suicide this year, Zgonc said.
