Presented by For the Kid in All of Us (www.ForTheKid.org), the Atlanta-based non-profit organization whose mission it is to brighten the lives of Georgia’s children in need, will present the 6th annual Backpack in the Park on Saturday, July 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Piedmont Park at the Greystone special event facility.
The 6th annual event, a community picnic and back-to-school benefit event, seeks to top last year’s record when more than 1,600 backpacks, filled with school supplies and gift cards were collected.
“With each year we host Backpack in the Park, the need gets greater – and this year we have raised the bar again,” said Christopher Bess, president of For the Kid in All of Us . “Our goal is to collect at least 1,800 backpacks filled with school supplies to help local students start the new school year on the right foot, with all the supplies and tools they need to be successful.”
In addition to complimentary food and beverages, the family-friendly event will have fun activities for people of all ages, including various carnival games and a balloon wall with tons of prizes. Popular local DJ Vicki Powell will be on hand to keep the party going. To attend, please bring a new unwrapped backpack filled with school supplies or a gift card valued at $30 or more. Paid parking is available at Piedmont Park in the SAGE parking deck.
These 12 local non-profit organizations are this year’s beneficiaries of Backpack in the Park: AGAPE Community Center, AID Atlanta, Camp Horizon, CHRIS Kids, Cool Girls, East Lake Foundation, Lithia Springs Elementary School, Lutheran Services of Georgia, Malachi Storehouse at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, Nicholas House, Our House and The Alcove, Inc. ;
