Bullet holes are visible in the stairwell after a Dec. 26, shooting resulted in the death of Ivan Perez, 32. Police are investigating.

A 32-year-old man died after he was shot at a Dunwoody apartment complex, Dunwoody police said Dec. 27.

Police identified the victim as 32-year-old Ivan Perez. He was shot Dec. 26 outside of building No. 8 of the Point at Perimeter Apartments, located at 100 Ashford Gables Drive, police said. He was pronounced dead after being transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.

On Dec. 27, bullet holes were still visible in the stairwell where residents said the shooting occurred.

Neighboring residents, who did not want to be identified, said the victim was shot five times as he was walking down the stairs of the building about 3:45 p.m. A suspect was last seen leaving the entrance of the apartment complex heading towards Ashford-Dunwoody Road.

Residents said they received a notice from property management officials, noting a homicide had occurred but offering scant details. It advised residents to call 911 if they see anything suspicious and to take basic security measures, such as locking doors and windows.

The residents didn’t know much about Perez, but they believed he had moved recently from New York and was staying with family. One resident thought he had two children.

Dunwoody police said in a statement that they do not believe it was a random shooting.
