Starting on Monday Feb. 13 residents of Sandy Springs will be unable to use Morgan Falls Overlook Park for three weeks while the city installs shades to keep residents cooler during the hot summer months.

The park is a big part of community life in the city. It recently hosted the city’s Veterans Day ceremony, and has a playground, a boat dock with a fishing pier and a hiking trail. A contractor for the city will instal “sail shades,” triangular canopies that will block the sun and keep the playground equipment from getting too hot. The city said it was reacting to resident feedback.

“The shades will be fitted over the large and small playground equipment in the park, and will have the ability to be taken down during poor weather and during the winter months,” the city announced in a press release.
