Prosecutors will begin presenting witnesses this afternoon in the murder trial of Hemy Neuman.
Neuman has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in the slaying of Russell Sneiderman. Neuman clams he did not know right from wrong at the time Sneiderman was shot in November 2010.
In his opening statement to the jury Feb. 21, Assistant DeKalb District Attorney Don Geary outlined events leading up to the shooting outside a Dunwoody day-care facility. Geary walked the jury through the day of the slaying, trying to show that Neuman’s moves were calculated, not those of an insane man.
Neuman’s lawyer, Doug Peters, later told jurors that Neuman’s hard childhood lead to mental illness. Peters went into detail about phone and email records, saying they showed that Neuman was in love with Andrea Sneiderman, Rusty Sneiderman’s widow, and wanted to marry her and he believed he was the father of her children.
