The owners of the Waffle House on Mt. Vernon Highway are encouraging patrons to press the City of Sandy Springs to leave their property out of plans for a municipal complex.

Employees of the Waffle House are giving customers postcards that read “Save Our Waffle House” and are addressed to the Sandy Springs City Council. The property is one of several that city officials have discussed purchasing to build a planned municipal complex. The city already owns the former Target property on 235 Johnson Ferry Road.

Mayor Eva Galambos declined to comment on the postcard. Other City Council members said they hadn’t seen it. Council members said they aren’t making any decisions about purchasing more property until a company hired by the city, Boston-based Goody Clancy, makes its final recommendations about downtown redevelopment.

“I think it’s premature to comment because nothing has happened,” Councilman Chip Collins said.

Councilman John Paulson agreed.

“I think we’re going to have to see how all of this plays out,” he said.
