Cross Keys High School students and teacher Patrick Gunter on July 28 publicly showed the Endeavour, the solar-powered car students built at the school this year.
“I’ve been in education 23 years,” Gunter said. “I’ve never seen a group of students who work harder than the students at Cross Keys.
Students from Cross Keys and several other DeKalb high schools built the solar-powered car from scratch in about 2 1/2-months during the school year, Gunter said. They had planned to enter the car in a competition in Texas. They traveled to Texas July 13-21, but the car was missing a critical part, so could not take part in the race, Gunter and several students said. The car won an engineering prize, Gunter said.
Gunter the car now has been completed, and he and his student team planned to put it on display June 28 at the Buford Highway Farmer’s Market. He said he hoped a new team of Cross Keys students would enter the car next year in a road race from Texas to California.
“It doesn’t stop here,” Gunter said. “We’ve got a car built.”
