Building on efforts made in 2012, District 2 Councilmember Kwanza Hall will join the Fourth Ward Alliance neighborhood association to kick off the 2013 edition of Year of Boulevard this evening (Thursday, Jan. 10) at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 475 Boulevard NE 30308.  Attendees are invited to socialize over refreshments from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

“The Boulevard community has a lot to be proud of,” said Hall. “We did what we said we would do in 2012. We kept our focus and created a solid foundation of accomplishments and relationships to build upon this year. Many Atlanta nonprofit agencies have answered the call to serve the families of the Boulevard corridor in 2013.”

Year of Boulevard nonprofit and government partners will have literature tables and registration for their programs. The neighborhood meeting begins promptly at 7 p.m.  Families are welcome to bring their children as free childcare will be provided.

At the meeting Hall will premiere a video highlighting the achievements from the first year of the initiative and will introduce 2013 partners to the community. The Tabernacle Baptist Church choir will perform as well.

Launched in January of 2012, the Year of Boulevard has been the catalyst for a new police mini-precinct located within Atlanta Medical Center, spring and fall community cleanup efforts along the corridor, four summer camps for 450 youth sponsored by community stakeholders, and improvements to the Bedford Pine properties. Atlanta City Council District 2’s Boulevard corridor contains the highest concentration of poverty in the southeastern United States.
