Sandy Springs City Councilman Tibby DeJulio’s home is in foreclosure and is scheduled to be sold at auction March 5.
DeJulio said he will still be able to meet the city’s residency requirements for holding office as the District 5 councilman. DeJulio declined to go into detail about the foreclosure.
DeJulio would not comment on how he was resolving his personal financial situation. “None of your business,” he said.
The action may have implications for the city’s upcoming mayoral race. DeJulio has been mentioned as a potential front-runner to replace Mayor Eva Galambos if she decides against seeking a third term. DeJulio has been the only councilman to represent District 5 since the city began operations in December 2005.
A notice in the Fulton County Daily Report published in February said DeJulio’s home at 300 Rivoli Circle Northeast in Sandy Springs scheduled to be sold at auction March 5 to pay back taxes and the remainder of DeJulio’s $692,000 mortgage, held by Wells Fargo bank.
DeJulio serves as mayor pro-tem of the council. Under the city’s charter, the mayor pro-tem presides over meetings when Mayor Eva Galambos is absent and can also veto actions of city council while serving on the mayor’s behalf. DeJulio is also First Vice President – Investments with Wells Fargo Advisors.
Financial pressures on DeJulio appear to have increased in recent months, according to court and property records obtained from the Fulton County Superior Court Clerk’s office. In January, the American Express credit card company filed suit in Fulton Superior Court alleging DeJulio owes the company $17,454.
