The Atlanta Board of Education is likely to decide whether to approve a proposed charter school in north Atlanta at its June 10 meeting.
Board members of the proposed Atlanta Classical Academy (ACA) met with the Atlanta Public School’s Office of Innovation in May to discuss curriculum and organization. Superintendent Erroll Davis is expected to make a recommendation to the board of education. If ACA gets a green light from the board, the plan must be submitted for state approval by Aug. 1
ACA would be a publicly funded charter school in north Atlanta that would offer curriculum based on the classical education method. The classical education method emphasizes Western traditions and literature. Atlanta Classical Academy will be a K-10 school with an enrollment of 700 students. If the state and Atlanta Board of Education approves the school’s charter, it could open in 2014. For more about the ACA, visit atlantaclassical.org.
