Atlanta, GA- Nancy Meister current APS Board of Education representative for District 4, is seeking reelection to the Atlanta Board of Education. “Serving as your District 4 representative on the Atlanta Board of Education for the past 4 years has been very challenging and extremely rewarding. While our school system has made progress in many areas, I believe that much more must be accomplished and that my Board of Education experience equips me to be a critical part of our system’s future progress.” For twelve years prior to serving on the Board, Meister volunteered in numerous roles within APS including PTA President at Sutton Middle School and at North Atlanta High School, NAPPS Co-President, and Founding member of the North Atlanta High School Foundation. “As both an elected Board member and volunteer, my focus has been to help build schools of excellence and equity. In fact, as I seek reelection, I am more passionate today about the need to continue on this journey. It is my strong desire to further serve this community and city as a productive and useful member of the Board of Education. I believe that our children, all of our children, are our most precious resource and that our public school system, one of a city’s greatest assets, must be effective and trustworthy.”
Meister states “Atlanta’s diverse student population has many needs. We must ensure that our children’s school experiences equip them for participation in an ever changing society as responsible and productive citizens, each able to fulfill his or her potential. At the same time, we must be fiscally prudent and work aggressively to find new sources of educational revenues and a more equitable system of financing public education. As our nation’s economy rebounds, there are many challenges facing all school systems, including APS. My years of experience dealing with this new financial reality as both a professional and Board of Education member and my firsthand knowledge of our community will serve me well in meeting the increased demands of local, state and federally funded and unfunded mandates, changing demographics and school enrollments, curriculum requirements, graduation rates and rising costs with a decreased tax digest.”
“My pledge to you is to work collaboratively with my colleagues on the Board to develop policies and approve balanced budgets which enhance the teaching and learning experience in all Atlanta Public Schools.” explains Meister. “The immediate task at hand is hiring an outstanding Superintendent who can reform and embrace this diverse system and will enable all schools to thrive, using innovative techniques, that custom fit the unique needs of each school. I believe this is critical to the overall success of APS.”
