yea2The Decatur Arts Alliance (DAA) announces YEA!, a new event designed to celebrate the talents of young artists and musicians in the city. On Saturday, Oct. 5, young Decatur artists (grades K-12) will set up an artists market on the square in downtown Decatur offering their creative works for sale, and musicians will perform. The festival hours are noon to 4 p.m.

The young artists will gain practical experience in event organization, marketing, and sales of their art work. They will be coached by the DAA staff, with participation by staffers from Decatur’s Children and Youth Services division, who have developed a successful summer entrepreneurs program.

“We are so excited about this unique opportunity to encourage Decatur’s talented youth to bring their creativity to the square and to kindle entrepreneurship,” says Angie Macon, executive director of the Decatur Arts Alliance. “Our goal is for our young emerging artists to have an outstanding experience participating in a community event, interacting on the downtown square with art lovers, family and neighbors. We want them to feel welcome as ongoing participants in the Decatur arts scene.”

This event is made possible by a generous grant from the Decatur Craft Beer Festival.

The application deadline for the YEA! Artist Market is Sept. 23. Artists and musicians may apply as individuals or as groups. Applications for the artist market and the musical stage are available online at decaturartsalliance.org.
