Fort McPherson redevelopment rendering.

The public is invited to an open house on Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fort McPherson, the former Army base on the city’s southside.

The city of Atlanta plans to redevelop the 486-acre site to create jobs and promote economic development. Plans include the creation of a science park with 3.5 million square feet of labs and office, 1,747 units of residential development and a campus style collaborative environment to house Georgia’s core competencies in vaccines, infectious diseases, neurosciences and other targeted sciences.

Hourly presentations and tours will be given by the McPherson Implementing Local Redevelopment Authority Board on how the timelines and negations will move forward with the Department of Defense conveyance of the property to the city of Atlanta and MILRA. Fort McPherson is located at 1794 Walker Ave.
