The Decatur Police have arrested and charged Marquis La’Vonta Freeman, 23, with the murder of his grandmother, Shirley Kendrick, 75.

Last night, Oct. 29, at approximately 11:57 p.m., Decatur Fire responded to a residence in the 200 block of Cambridge Avenue in reference to a medical call. Decatur Police were called to the scene when medical personnel suspected an assault had occurred. Kendrick was transported to an area hospital where she later died. She appeared to have been stabbed and to have sustained a head injury. Family members attempted to intervene in the assault. Kendrick’s son suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and her  husband also received minor injuries.

Along with murder, Freeman has been charged with aggravated assault and battery, according to a report from the Decatur Police.
