Communities around the metro area pushed the pause button on their busy lives Monday so they could reflect on the service and sacrifices of our veterans.
Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Buckhead and Brookhaven all held ceremonies throughout the weekend marking Veterans Day.
Sandy Springs held its annual celebration on Monday at the green space at the Concourse Corporate Center.
The keynote speaker, Brig. Gen. John King, Georgia National Guard, said that no holiday could properly express the gratitude veterans deserve.
“We don’t mark this day as a celebration of victory, but as a celebration of people who make victory possible,” King said.
St. Martin’s Episcopal School in Brookhaven held its ceremony on Nov. 8.
The school said that U.S. Army officer Lt. Col. Chris Auclair, who recently returned from Afghanistan, gave the keynote address.
“All veterans have done something special. We have all been scared and gotten through something we didn’t think we could,” Auclair said, according to a press release from the school. “And fighting is not what we want to do. We want to help others.”
The Atlanta History Center in Buckhead held a ceremony marking the event and the city of Dunwoody held a ceremony in Brook Run Park.
