A preliminary hearing for the suspects charged with shooting death Army reservist and artist Xavier Arnold on a Kirkwood bike trail on Dec. 26 was held in a DeKalb County Magistrate Court yesterday, according to a report from Decaturish.

Defense attorney Tom Clegg said there was a lack of physical evidence connecting Qutravius Palmer and a 14-year-old defendant to the crime. Both suspects turned themselves in at the urging of their parents. Neither of the suspects admitted guilt. Police have not recovered a murder weapon and Arnold’s friends couldn’t identify Palmer in a lineup. Nevetheless, the judge found enough cause to send the case to state Superior Court.
