A motorcycle passenger killed Sunday morning on the Downtown Connector has been identified as Ellie Norris, 33, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office.
According to the Atlanta Police Department report, Jessica Johnson was driving southbound on I-75/85 and tried to move into the exit lane for I-20. Johnson’s Hyundai Sonata clipped the back of the motorcycle, Morris fell off and was hit by Johnson’s car.
The motorcycle driver, Saahir Salahuddin, hit the retaining wall, but came over to Johnson’s car and started calling Morris’ name. When she didn’t respond, he fled the scene. He was later arrested seeking medical attention at Grady Hospital and charged with first degree vehicular homicide, hit and run, and theft by receiving a stolen auto. It was unclear whether all those charges related to the incident.
Johnson, the driver of the Hyundai Sonata, was taken to the Fulton County Jail and charged with first degree vehicular homicide, DUI, reckless driving and following too closely. Johnson was given a field sobriety test and blew a .209 – twice the legal limit.
