The Atlanta Police Department is dismantling the DUI task force and reassigning the officers, according to a report from our media affiliate CBS46. Atlanta police said they are not shutting down the DUI Task Force because of budgetary reasons, but they could be making the change because of a decrease in DUI’s lately. Figures show that DUI arrests were down last year to 602, their lowest number in three years.

The AJC is reporting that former Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran has filed a federal discrimination complaint contending he faced religious discrimination when the city fired him after he published a book that contained controversial statements about homosexuality.

A vigilant police officer manning the cameras at the Atlanta Police Department’s Video Integration Center around 2 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 21 spotted a suspicious male looking into vehicles in the 200 block of Arizona Avenue and immediately radioed Zone 6 officers. They quickly arrived and arrested the subject, Corey Davell King, 19, who was in possession of a laptop stolen on Newton Avenue earlier.
