The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded $212,000 to the Turner Field Stadium Neighborhood Regional Center in its latest round of Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) grants.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled and excited for our Stadium Neighborhoods,” said Atlanta City Councilmember Carla Smith, who represents the neighborhoods around Turner Field. “The study that will be conducted with these funds will allow us to envision the future of the Turner Field area and the surrounding neighborhoods. I’d like thank the City of Atlanta’s Office of Planning, Invest Atlanta and the Annie E. Casey Foundation for their financial support.”
Once the studies and plans are complete, Turner Field will be eligible for additional LCI funding for transportation projects.
The Atlanta Braves will depart Turner Field for its new home in Cobb County in 2017. Mayor Kasim Reed has pledged to redevelop Turner Field into a mixed-use community. Georgia State University has expressed interest in using part of the property for a campus extension and football stadium.

In the LCI application they set the maximum amount that will be granted to new studies and the supplemental studies. For this round, the maximum amount for new studies was $200K, an increase from previous years. In the application, the City of Atlanta requested $200 and ARC added $12K on top of that.
