police-siren1A security guard for Mary Mac’s Tea Room is in jail after shooting at a vehicle that exited the restaurant’s parking lot the wrong way.

Dexter Washington has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and criminal damage to property for the April 10 incident. He remains in the Fulton County Jail.

According to the police report, officers were called to Mary Mac’s, 224 Ponce de Leon Ave., around 7:30 p.m. on Friday night. Officers found a silver Ford Escape in the intersection of Ponce and Myrtle Street and were flagged down by Washington, who was standing near the car.

Washington informed the officers that he had detained the driver after he exited the back parking lot of Mary Mac’s through the wrong entrance and the Ford Escape bumped him. Washington said he followed the driver on foot and found the Ford Escape stopped at a red light at the intersection of Myrtle and Ponce. Washington said as he was calling police, the driver tried to run him over at the intersection and he fired four shots fearing for his life.

The driver was not injured and video surveillance actually showed the car driving around Washington before the security guard opened fire.
