
MARTA riders will pay more for their Breeze Cards starting in 2016, according to a report from CBS46. The one-time fee will bring the new cost to $2 and will be added to the fare. MARTA said the new fare will help prevent fraud and hacking for more than one million active cards.
Activists blocked the controversial carving at Stone Mountain on Saturday with a giant banner to protest Atlanta-based Coca-Cola’s sponsorship of the state park, according to a report from Creative Loafing. The banner, which was lifted by two 10-foot balloons that took five tanks of helium to fill, said “Heritage of Hate: Coca-Cola Supports Racism” in the cursive style of the soft drink company’s logo and branding. According to Rise Up Georgia, the group that organized the event, the protest was meant to put pressure on Coca-Cola and hold the company “accountable for their support of Stone Mountain and a history of racism.
Emory Cinematheque will present a free series of animation and anime-inspired films from Japan this fall, beginning Sept. 16 Screenings during the eleven-film series take place on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. in White Hall 208 on Emory University’s campus through Dec. 2. The series opens with a 2001 anime adaptation of legendary animator Osamu Tezuka’s 1949 comic book Metropolis, which also takes inspiration from the 1927 Fritz Lang classic of the same name. The series features 10 films by major filmmakers representing a variety of genres, from films by established masters Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Monokoke and The Wind Rises) and Satoshi Kon (Paprika), to magic girl film Puella Magi Madoka Magica and slice-of-life anime K-ON! The series also features Tetsuya Nakashima’s satirical comedy Kamikaze Girls, a live-action adaptation with anime characteristics. Find out more at this link.
