Sandy Springs’ massive City Center redevelopment and the downtown district it hopes to inspire are getting a new name and logo that will be unveiled in a Sept. 20 public ceremony. The new name remains a secret until then.
As part of the ceremony, residents are invited to bring a jar of soil from their neighborhood to mix into the construction site’s dirt, to symbolize the creation of “everyone’s neighborhood,” as the city puts it.
“This project is a defining one for the city,” said Mayor Rusty Paul in a press release. “We wanted to create a name and brand that connects with the strong sense of place and pride we have for the entire Sandy Springs community, while at the same time, creating a brand reflective of the shared ownership within this specific area.”
The $220 million, public-private redevelopment targets the area where Roswell Road intersects with Johnson Ferry Road and Mount Vernon Highway. It will include a new City Hall, apartments, commercial space, and concert and theater halls.
The unveiling of the new name and logo are slated for 5 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the construction site, with entrance via Mount Vernon. The ceremony immediately follows the closing of the annual Sandy Springs Festival on nearby Heritage Green.
